The Narrator, when referring to his life before Tyler, states that that his life was "a house full of condiments and no real food". What does that mean and what has changed in the narrator since Tyler's arrival?
The narrator had lived a life that was based around materialism. He had designer furniture and lived his life in a cliche manner. There was no real substance in his life. A "house full of condiments and no real food" serves as a metaphorical view into the narrator's empty life.
The narrator describes that he has a "house full of condiments", which relates directly to his life; an empty life with no real meaning. When the narrator meets Tyler and begins to live with him he realizes how meaningless everything has been up to this point. Tyler helps the narrator to realize what is important and also helps the narrator to deal with his problems through reverting to a more primitive way of living.
